Human Design Authorities
Discover your inner guidance system for making authentic decisions.
What Is Authority in Human Design?
In Human Design, your Authority is your built-in decision-making system—your personal inner guidance that helps you navigate life authentically. Your Authority stems from specific defined centers in your bodygraph and provides reliable guidance for making decisions aligned with your true self.
Authority vs. Strategy
While your Strategy tells you how to engage with the world based on your Type (Generator, Manifestor, Projector, Reflector), your Authority reveals how to make decisions once engaged.
Together, your Strategy and Authority form your unique guidance system for living authentically.
Mind vs. Authority
The mind (Ajna Center) is designed to be an incredible tool for processing information, but not for making decisions. When we use our mind instead of our Authority, we often make decisions that aren't right for us.
Your Authority bypasses mental conditioning to access your body's deeper wisdom.
Emotional Authority
Approximately 50% of the population
Emotional Authority stems from the defined Solar Plexus Center. Decision-making comes through clarity that emerges after riding the complete emotional wave - from positive to negative and back again.

- •Clarity comes after experiencing the complete emotional wave
- •Patience is essential in the decision-making process
- •Truth emerges through emotional clarity
Best Practices

- ✓Track emotions to understand your unique emotional wave
- ✓Avoid making promises in emotional highs
- ✓Use a journal to document emotional patterns
Sacral Authority
Approximately 35% of the population
Sacral Authority comes from the defined Sacral Center. Decision-making is guided by your body's immediate energetic response of either engagement or resistance - often described as a gut feeling.
Key Characteristics

- •Gut-level knowing

- ✓Honor your immediate energetic response
Splenic Authority
Approximately 9% of the population
Splenic Authority originates from the defined Splenic Center. It operates through intuitive, in-the-moment awareness that speaks once and often quietly, providing instantaneous knowing and insight.
Key Characteristics

Get Your ChartLiving By Your Authority
Your Authority is not just a guide for big life decisions—it's a moment-by-moment navigational tool for everyday choices. When you consistently honor your Authority over your mind's conditioning, you'll experience:
- •Greater confidence and clarity in decision-making
- •Reduced stress and anxiety about choices
- •Better alignment with your life purpose
- •Increased satisfaction with outcomes
- •An authentic life that feels "right" for you
The Deconditioning Process
Learning to follow your Authority instead of your mind's conditioning takes time and practice. The mind will resist this shift, offering logical arguments and fears about the consequences of not thinking through decisions rationally.
Trust the experiment—commit to following your Authority for at least 7 days to experience the difference between mind-led and Authority-led decisions. Over time, you'll develop greater sensitivity to your Authority's signals and confidence in following them.
Authority and Relationships
Understanding both your Authority and those of your loved ones can transform your relationships. When we recognize that others may make decisions differently than we do, we can support their process rather than imposing our own.
For example, rushing an Emotional Authority person to decide will create stress, while giving a Splenic Authority person too much time might lead them away from their initial correct insight.
